Uganda’s Ministry of Health confirmed 4 new Ebola cases in Kassanda and Mubende districts on Friday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to 67 cases and 29 deaths.

Health officials said the new cases are linked to community transmission and involve the Sudan strain of Ebola, which has no approved vaccine. Contact tracing teams have been deployed to border districts with DRC and South Sudan to prevent cross-border spread.

The World Health Organization has released $5M in emergency funds and sent additional medical supplies. Isolation wards have been set up at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.

Residents have been urged to avoid contact with sick persons and report symptoms including fever, vomiting, and bleeding early. Burial teams are working with local leaders to ensure safe burial practices.

Uganda last contained an Ebola outbreak in 2023 after 5 months. Cross-border trade and movement make containment challenging in the region.
