The Minister of State for Works and Transport [Works], Hon. Musa Ecweru, led a high-level Government delegation in an engagement with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Appraisal Mission on the Malaba–Kampala Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Dr. Issahaq Umar Iddrisu, the Regional Hub Manager, led the IsDB delegation.
The meeting focused on advancing appraisal discussions and accelerating financial closure for the €2.7 billion railway project, which Government has positioned as a transformative regional corridor to reduce logistics costs and strengthen trade competitiveness.
“This railway is transformative for Uganda and the wider region… time is of the essence; we should close financing early and proceed without delay,” Hon. Ecweru.
Over 60% of the right-of-way has been acquired and early works have been fully financed by Government of Uganda indicating readiness to move into implementation.
